Alec and I enjoyed the William B. Bankhead national forest so much we decided to go back a few weekends later for another day trip. Except this time to a different place called Caney Creek Falls. I had also found this one online when I came across Kinlock Falls. However, to find the trail head for this hike, I turned my maps on my iphone to satellite mode and tried to pinpoint the exact spot from the picture of the directions on google. Luckily my marked location took us right to the trailhead.
This place was different from Kinlock falls right from the beginning. This is because in order to get the waterfall, you had to hike about a mile and a half through a beautiful trail, whereas for Kinlock falls, the waterfall was only a short hike down from the side of the road. The hike to Caney Creek Falls definitely allowed you to feel like you were more in the wilderness.
After hiking about 15-20 min you could start to hear the sound of the water, creating excitement for what was right around the bend. As Alec, Cerberus, and I walked down the path and rounded the bend both our mouths dropped at how beautiful the scenery in front of us was. We ran down to the water like little kids running to open presents on christmas day. We took pictures, videos and just stared at the picture perfect waterfall right in front of us. We spent a good hour enjoying our new found secret paradise.
After we were satisfied with our time spent at the waterfall, we decided to explore around the area off trail a little more before heading home. We found a little campsite and fire pit that we relaxed and ate some snacks at. After, we then climbed around on some massive rocks and fallen trees. It’s always fun to take a brand new path and see what hidden adventures lie beyond.
Caney Creek falls definitely did not disappoint in any way. I would have to say the biggest difference between Kinlock Falls and Caney Creek falls is that this place was more on the relaxing side, and Kinlock falls had a more thrilling cliff jumping atmosphere. Also, this waterfall was more peaceful and pretty, whereas the Kinlock waterfall was definitely bigger and more powerful. However, all in all, they were two amazing spots to explore. Alec and I will be back to Caney Creek Falls in the future and we hope one day you decide to adventure there too!
Happy Traveling!
